Day Two of the IWFC Kicks Off with an Industry Update

Day two of the International Window Film Conference kicked off with a Welcome and Industry Update presented by Debra Levy, publisher of Window Film magazine, John Parker, president of the International Window Film Association (IWFA) and Jack Mundy, chair of the IWFA members action committee (MAC). The session opened with a welcome from Levy and introductions from all the attendees. The international group of attendees traveled from as far as South Africa and as close as Bowling Green, Ky.

Changes to the industry was the most heavily-discussed topic. Parker, who also owns National Security and Window Filming in Oak Forest, Ill., cited the recent regulations in California that have helped to make window film a more recognizable industry. He also noted that this boost in recognition is not limited to California. “It’s already coming east,” said Parker. “I’m getting calls from customers who are saying that they had never heard of window film who are hearing of it now.”

“Window film has more credibility now than it ever had before,” continued Parker.

Parker also noted that IWFA membership offers benefits to its members in the growing industry. “I predict in the next five years your window film sales are going to double.”

Mundy continued those sentiments. “What you’re seeing for the past year or so is a new IWFA,” he said. The MAC is currently working on improving membership and asking members for feedback and input on how the IWFC can make membership more attractive.

“Once you’re a member we want to keep you; we want to make it valuable to your business,” said Mundy, who also serves as president of Ener-Gard Energy Products Inc. in Canada.

The Membership Action Committee, Mundy said, “is in the throes of looking at different ideas now.”

One of the better membership benefits, according to Mundy, is the education opportunities. “Our best-educated dealer is a successful dealer,” he said.

After the presentation, Darrell Smith, executive director of the IWFA, stepped up to answer questions.

Commenting on the increasing consumer knowledge of the industry, Smith said, “once you explain to people what window film is, the next question you get is where can I buy it.”

He also commented on the IWFA’s increased media presence. “In terms of PR, there are other things that go on behind the scenes that you may not be aware of. Window film is now recognized as a part of the glass industry.”
