Asahi Glass Co. Ltd. (AGC), announced yesterday what it says is “the world[’s] first tempered glass for automotive front door windows blocking approximately 99 percent UV rays while reducing uncomfortable frizzling sensation.”

According to the company, the glass has been installed in Toyota Motor Co.’s Vitz special edition, released yesterday.

AGC introduced the UV Verre Premium line, which it claims “blocks approximately 99 percent of UV rays,” in December 2010 and says the glass has been installed on 15 different vehicle lines so far.

In a statement issued by AGC, the company says the Cool On line of the UV Verre series has a higher infrared shielding performance in addition to its UV blocking properties.
