How to Be a “Businessman of the Year”

September 17th, 2014 by Casey Flores

Tint World has named Rodney Thiel of their Grapevine, Texas, location this year’s Tint World Franchisee of the Year.

“I am excited about receiving this award and accept it on behalf of our team, without whom our success would not be possible. We look forward to our continued growth and the support from Tint World,” Thiel says.

He attributes his success to quality customer service.

Tint World in Grapevine, Texas will have close to $800,000 in sales this year with only four employees. Its owner, Rodney Thiel, won the company's Franchisee of the Year award.

Tint World in Grapevine, Texas will have close to $800,000 in sales this year with only four employees. Its owner, Rodney Thiel, won the company’s Franchisee of the Year award.

“I worked in hospitality in 27 years – I know customer service like the back of my hand and we implement that. It starts to build our reputation and we get the repeat customers,” says Thiel.

His son, Dillon Thiel, is the shop manager.

“Honestly, from a franchise standpoint there have been a lot of other franchises in the company that defer to my dad as to how to run it,” Dillon says. “He’s a good manager otherwise we wouldn’t be working here.”

Dillon says under his dad’s leadership, the company has outdone expectations.

“We’re four people strong but try to hit in the top three every week. We think we’re going to hit $800,000 in sales this year,” he explains.

But how does a shop with only four employees reach those numbers?

Ashley Thiel, his daughter and the store manager, like her dad, says it’s through customer service.

“This is a family-owned business and we treat our customers like family. It’s kind of a rare thing nowadays,” Ashley says. “We frequently give courtesy rides with our own personal vehicles for our customers who want to leave their car, we will bring them back to work or to their house – whatever the case may be.”

One thing the family has done is formed personal relationships with their customers.

“We have so many repeat customers with whom we’re on a first name basis. Some even bring us lunch. We also have people who will travel very far, from Oklahoma, three or four hours, just to come here. Most of it is because either a family member or friend told them about us and we have very good reviews,” Ashley says.

Rodney explains their online reviews is what makes them stand out as wells. He encourages every customer to write a review.

“We give our customers a little card in-store for $25 off their next visit that also contains an invitation to like us on Facebook and Google+,” he says.

That strategy seems to be working. On Facebook, the average user rating is 4.2/5 and on Google+, their rating is 4.8/5.

“The tint looks awesome and I look forward to getting the interior LEDs put in later this week. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of each other. Great job!” reads one of the reviews.

Paul Pirro, vice president of operations and vendor manager for Tint World says, “It was a unanimous vote within our Corporate Team to nominate Rodney Thiel and his franchise location for the IFA Franchisee of the Year Award. Rodney’s dedication and commitment to faithfully follow the Tint World system has allowed his location to double sales over his previous year’s sales and gain a strong quality reputation in his community. We are elated for Rodney’s achievement, and look forward to his continued success for years to come.”

Charles J. Bonfiglio, CEO of Tint World franchise adds, “Rodney Thiel has fully embraced the Tint World brand and is lucky to have his son Dillon and daughter Ashley work with him and his staff. They have taken everything the Tint World system has to offer very seriously since they opened nearly two years ago which provided a pathway to be awarded the IFA Franchisee of the Year for 2014.”
