Facebook’s New Tool Will Increase Your In-Store Interaction and Revenue

Do you have a retail location? In this blog, you’ll find out how you can increase your in-store revenue using this new, free tool from Facebook called Place Tips.

Nowadays, people are addicted to their phones. They use them everywhere as a primary source of entertainment and information. As a result, one of the best ways to reach someone with information is by presenting it on their phone. Better still would be to deliver that information at the precise moment when they’re most likely to act on it.

Facebook will send you this free bluetooth locator to help your business participate in Place Tips.

That’s where Facebook Place Tips comes in. The new tool utilizes a free beacon to be placed within a retail business location that delivers information about your business to a person’s phone during their visit. This program was originally launched as a test this past January in New York City, and now Facebook has decided to roll this out to businesses across the U.S. The results showed that businesses that implemented Place Tips saw a steady increase in traffic to their Facebook Page from in-store visitors.

So, how can you get started? The first step is to contact Facebook to receive a free bluetooth beacon for your store like the one pictured above. You can get that by clicking here. Facebook is giving priority to businesses with active Pages as they roll this program out, so I hope you have been keeping your page up to date recently. Once you’ve received your beacon, just activate it within your store and Facebook helps you interact with your visitors. When a Facebook user enters your location, they can get a welcome message from your page, a prompt to check-in or like the business page, see recent posts on your page or they may see posts and photos from their friends that have also visited.

But don’t forget, I also mentioned increasing revenues in the title. The first way this will do that is the active marketing effort that can be implemented by customizing the welcome message that Place Tips uses when someone arrives. You can have this to offer visitors an incentive to upgrade to the next level of service, or promote new services your company’s offering. If they’re going to be presented with a welcome message, you should make an effort to have that interaction be as impactful as possible and hopefully lead to a higher revenue visit.

The second way Place Tips can help grow your revenue is through the passive marketing that takes place when people check-in or like your page during their visit. Whenever someone likes your page or checks in at your location, that activity is shown to the friends of that person. That means hundreds, if not thousands, of people are being exposed to your business via a simple page like or check-in from someone with whom they are friends. That lends credibility to your business and also serves to increase the market awareness of your company and brand.

Now, what are you waiting for?! If you have a physical store, you should be jumping at the opportunity to implement this free program that’s sure to help you in 2015 and beyond. To find out more about Facebook Place Tips, visit the information page.

Thanks for reading. I look forward to hearing how some of you are using this tool to grow your business in the coming months.
