Former Surgeon General Issues Call to Educate

October 6th, 2016 by Katherine Coig

Dr. Boris D. Lushniak, former U.S. Surgeon General, gave a speech highlighting the importance of protecting health, namely preventing skin cancer, through the use of window film.

While he noted it’s only a part of prevention, he emphasized how important it is as an industry to educate consumers on the benefits window film provides in preventing skin cancer, one of the most common forms of cancer.

“A lot of drivers develop cancers on the left side of their arms and face,” he says. “You see it in Australia, too, where skin cancer is most commonly found on the right side.”

He also says that skin cancer is highly preventable, but customers need to take the steps necessary in order to protect themselves, and the window film industry, especially dealers, are part of the solution.

“It blocks UV-A and UV-B rays, and those rays are proven carcinogens,” he says. “I can’t grow awareness on my own. It takes a village, and it’s industries that can help with prevention.”

The International Window Film Conference and Tint-Off™ is being held this week at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio. Stay tuned to windowfilmmag.com for more from the event, which continues through Friday.
