Eastman Plans $7.7 Million Expansion

August 14th, 2019 by Emmariah Holcomb

Eastman Chemical Co. (Eastman) announced it’s planning to invest $7.7 million to further expand its operations in Henry County, Va. Company representatives have said the expansion has begun and is to support its two Martinsville, Va., film production facilities. It is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2020.

“Eastman currently employs almost 800 people in support of our window film, paint protection film and component film businesses,” said Travis Smith, Eastman Performance Films and Advanced Interlayers vice president and general manager.

He added that the number of employees has steadily increased as a result of the company’s investments made over the years. The amount of expected jobs is yet to be revealed by the company.

A main focal point of the expansion project is to “expand key elements of its film handling capabilities,” according to Smith. A new state of the art clean room facility, where the final packaging of all the window film and paint protection film products take place, will also be added.

“This expansion will allow us to more fully utilize the various manufacturing lines at Eastman’s two sites as well as provide capabilities for further expansions in the coming years,” said Smith. “This latest expansion is consistent with our commitment to continual improvement in quality at our Martinsville facilities and to ensure we meet the growing demand for products produced from those sites.”

When asked why this was the time to invest more in the company’s facilities, Smith mentioned the growing demand for industry products.

“Even though global passenger vehicle sales have remained weak, demand for Eastman’s window films and paint protection films are continuing to grow and this investment is being made to ensure we have the right capacity in place to meet the future needs of our dealers and partners around the world,” added Smith.

The company is excited about the announcement and will continue working on all aspects of the company in the future to ensure continued success.

“I am quite excited about not just the investments in manufacturing capacity and quality, but also the investments we continue to make in our training, sales, marketing, and innovation programs to support our brands. I believe it is the combination of capabilities and investments in all those areas that enables Eastman to be a strong partner to our dealers and our partners,” said Smith.
