Madico Makes Large Medical Supply Donation and More during Virus Outbreak

April 1st, 2020 by Emmariah Holcomb

Madico Window Films (Madico) recently announced it has donated medical supplies for many of Florida’s first responders and medical professionals. The company is also set to begin manufacturing protective face shields to help further protect individuals from COVID-19.

“I think part of the corporate mission and who we are as a company leads us to donate and want to help our community in any way we can,” said CEO Shawn Kitchell. “So far we’ve been able to donate 1,000 face masks, 8 boxes of clean-room suits and booties, and 40 bottles of hand sanitizer to the state of Florida’s health care facilities.”

According to Kitchell, the company went through its inventories to see what it could donate from its clean rooms after a community task force meeting, held last week. He mentioned the company kept its reusable masks that can be washed and reused additional times. Its goal was to donate excess items that were not immediately needed by the company. “After the meeting it was apparent that there was a need in our community, but then we discovered there was a need for face shields. We thought our team could definitely make them,” said Kitchell.

After the decision was made to shift into face shields, prototypes were created and sent out to local hospitals for feedback. According to Kitchell, it wasn’t long before the company received suggestions on ways to improve the design.

“It all happened so fast, we developed the prototype then modified the design and we were able to get it certified. Madico is looking to start mass production on them next week and our goal is to make 10,000 face shields each day,” mentioned Kitchell.

He also highlighted how impressed he was with how quickly the local community came together and were willing to “step-up and help.” “Everyone knows how urgent this is – this has been a scary time,” Kitchell added. “Most of my job for the past two weeks has been trying to keep people calm as more information about the virus is announced each day.”

The company also released a statement informing the community that it will also begin working on manufacturing sanitizer.
