Talking Tint Rescue With Mike Burke

Sun Stoppers founder Mike Burke was sitting in a Myrtle Beach, S.C., bar 10 years ago when the concept of a Tint Rescue video series first entered his mind. Burke and an industry peer were sharing a drink, observing and discussing glaring inefficiencies in the establishment. I caught up with Burke, who shared details of the conversation.

Help is on the Way

Sun Stoppers founder Mike Burke has worked in the window film industry for 33 years. He was named XPEL’s National Dealer of the Year in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

“We were talking about how this bar needed help,” Burke says. “It wasn’t living up to expectations. My buddy was telling me about the TV series Bar Rescue. I thought, you could apply the same template to our industry … Tint Rescue. You can find the greatest window tinter on the planet, but they may not understand the sales process, how to run a business efficiently, work with others or train employees.”

Reality television series Bar Rescue sees nightlife expert Jon Taffer travel the country to help struggling bar owners save their failing businesses. Ten years after conceptualizing the series Tint Rescue, Burke looks to accomplish a similar goal in the window film industry.

“I went on GoDaddy and bought TintRescue.com years ago,” Burke says. “I now have time to pause, take my eyes off my company and give back.”

Burke has worked in the window film industry for 33 years. He is the founder of Sun Stoppers, which has more than 71 locations in 28 states and offers residential and commercial tint and decorative film services as well as automotive tint, paint protection and ceramic coatings. Burke was named XPEL’s National Dealer of the Year in 2019, 2020 and 2021 and holds The Guinness World Record for the most car windows tinted in a single day. He hopes to help fellow tint shop owners climb to greater heights with the new series.

Struggling window film professionals can apply to have their business featured on future episodes of Tint Rescue. The series’ pilot episode launches this summer and sees Peach and Cake Window Tinting in Florence, Ky., receive a makeover. Burke and his team are putting more than $20,000 into the business to revamp its operations.

“I want hard working guys to be able to buy a house, employ people and have a business that they can be proud of later in life,” Burke cites as his motivation for the series. “The most powerful reward on this planet is to teach people how to change their lives.”
