After relocating from North Carolina to the sunny, coastal shores of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Kristy Yelle and her husband Matthew embarked on the journey of business ownership. Birthing a new business at the start of a pandemic was no easy feat, but the couple persevered. Yelle currently serves in various leadership roles locally and nationally while juggling the day-to-day functions of a growing company.

One of her international leadership roles is with the IWFA as a Board member. She was named secretary for the Board last month. A board member since the onset of 2023, Yelle is relishing the opportunity to serve the industry. As if that wasn’t enough, she has been blogging for WINDOW FILM magazine* since April 2022.

“It’s extremely humbling, and it’s an honor,” Yelle says of being named secretary for the Board. “I just wanted to be a part of the Board to learn more. For them to tap me for a leadership position—I was like, ‘Wow!’”

Yelle also co-chairs the IWFA’s Members Action Committee (MAC).

The mission of the MAC is to “develop, deliver and manage programs, activities and incentives both to benefit existing dealer and distributor members, while attracting new members and to provide input and [participation in] other IWFA functional committees,” the association states.

Michelle Hurtado, president of Sal’s House of Tint in San Marcos, Texas

Michelle Hurtado, president of Sal’s House of Tint in San Marcos, Texas, joined the Board in 2022 after serving as a Board advisor for one year.

“I joined the Board in 2022 after serving as a Board advisor for one year,” Hurtado says. “It was volunteering on the Members Action Committee that gave me a glimpse into all of the behind-the-scenes work that was being done on an industry level. It inspired me to get more involved.”

Hurtado is now a co-chair on the MAC with Yelle. Her industry journey started in 2010 when she and her husband, Salvador, opened Sal’s House of Tint in San Marcos, Texas.

“I knew that [Salvador] was a skilled installer and had a great work ethic because I had been working with him for some time,” says Hurtado, who first met Salvador at an automotive dealership in the early 2000s. “My background is in business administration and marketing. Naturally, I went research crazy when considering entering the window film industry. I found out the industry was clearly thriving. We went all in.”

IWFA Education Day at The International Window Film Conference & Tint-Off™ (WFCT) 2023 looks to further the education and knowledge of all attendees with valuable seminars. It’s a mission that Hurtado is proud to push forward. Click here and scroll to page 12 to scan the IWFA Education Day seminar list, and click here to register for the event.

“I’ve always valued the educational seminars at WFCT,” Hurtado shares. “I’ve sat through so many over the last decade plus. Joining the team that brings some of these seminars to the event has been very rewarding. Being able to give back to our industry in that manner has to be my proudest moment. It feels full circle for me.”
