A Week of Precision: Protecting a Rare Bugatti
August 26th, 2026 by Abby BowmanThe Toyz Detail Studio team members are no strangers to working on multi-million-dollar hypercars, but owner Max Pan says one recent installation easily topped the rest. He and his three employees spent a full week putting paint protection film (PPF) on a Bugatti W16 Mistral.

“The car costs more than $5 million, and there are fewer than 99 of them in the world,” Pan says.
The Bugatti’s owner is a repeat customer who had the hypercar delivered directly from the dealership to Toyz Detail Studio in Irvine, California, for a full-body PPF installation.
The Toyz team used a combination of pre-set and custom patterns, plus freehand cutting, Pan says. They installed STEK DYNOshield PPF.
“We went very slowly to make sure all the cuts were precise,” he says, explaining that the pre-set patterns used several pieces of film to cover more complicated areas of the car. “We wanted to avoid seams as much as possible, so we used one whole piece for those areas instead.”
Pan says the installation was trickiest around the fender, the quarter panels and the rear bumper, but they managed to achieve it with no more seams than necessary.

Toyz is almost seven years old, Pan says, and he and his team have worked on one or two hypercars a year since 2022.
“Installing on these kinds of cars is exciting but challenging,” he says. “It would cost us a lot if we broke something, but it’s even more important to us to not break the customer’s trust.”
The Toyz crew had to be mindful of protecting this Bugatti’s interior, too.
“Hermès made it,” Pan says. “We covered the seats at all times to protect them.”
Toyz returned the car to the dealership seven days after completing the PPF installation.
“This customer always has PPF installed on his cars before driving them for the first time,” he says. The dealership performed a final inspection on the Bugatti before delivering it to the customer on a trailer.
