Rafael Fernández, who founded Confianza Window Tinting in Miami in 1990, passed away on August 17, 2026. In addition to his more than 30 years in the film industry, Fernández hosted the “Palabras de confianza” (Words of Confidence) program, which aired on EWTN Radio Católica Mundial (EWTN).

Outside the window film industry, Rafael Fernández, founder of Confianza Window Tinting, and his wife, Maria, enjoyed collecting classic cars.

Fernández, who was profiled in the September/October 2010 issue of WINDOW FILM magazine, shared that it was through a game of what he called “Bible roulette” that he founded his company. He was new to going to church and had recently found himself unemployed.

“I was upset and felt lied to, but I learned that disappointments are the birthplace of incredible achievements,” he told WINDOW FILM magazine. “My dad, who is a very quiet man, took me out one day and said, ‘You know son, there are a lot of windows in Miami …’ So, I thought about it and prayed about it and then I did something that I don’t recommend—I played Bible roulette. I opened the Bible and pointed to the first verse I saw. And it worked that day because I bumped into one of the most beautiful verses, Jeremiah 17:7, which says, ‘But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.’ Confidence … and, it was a Spanish Bible, so I said, ‘Ah! Confianza Window Tinting” and that’s where the company name came from.”

According to the EWTN announcement, Fernández also created the “Palabras de confianza” program, which aired for more than 30 years.

“Across the more than 1,300 episodes he recorded, Rafael shared engaging anecdotes from everyday life each week, showing how we could see God’s hand at work in them. With his sense of humor and profound faith in Jesus, Rafael won the love and affection of thousands of listeners across the Hispanic world, who never missed their weekly appointment to hear his “Palabras de confianza.”
